Update: Holiday rights for the long-term sick
In January 2009, we reported the European Court of Justice's decision in Stringer and others v HMRC, in which the ECJ held that a worker on sick leave accrues annual leave whilst absent from work.
The ECJ went on to find, however, that whether a worker is entitled to take that accrued annual leave during a period of leave that would otherwise be sick leave, or whether they should be allowed to carry it over to the next leave year, is a matter for national law. That issue was to be decided in the House of Lords.
The House of Lords has now handed down its decision.

Increase in maximum limit on 'weekly pay'
The Government has decided to increase the maximum limit on 'weekly pay' from £350 to £380 with effect from 1 October 2009.
Whilst this increase has been made in the context of redundancy calculations, it is relevant to all Tribunal compensation to which the weekly pay limit applies (most notably the basic award in unfair dismissal compensation).
