Effective date of termination is when employee reads a dismissal letter
In Gisda Cyf v Barratt the Court of Appeal has confirmed that the effective date of termination of an employment contract will be the date on which the decision to dismiss is communicated to the employee. In this case, it was not effective until the employee had actually read the dismissal letter, regardless of when the letter was written, posted or delivered.

Government annouces earlier review of default retirement age
The Government has published a strategy document in which it announces that its review of the current default retirement age of 65 will be brought forward to 2010.
