Immigration: changes to points-based system
Where an employer proposes to sponsor a foreign national under Tier 2 of the points-based system a more stringent recruitment test will soon apply. This will mean that jobs must be advertised for a minimum of four weeks beforehand (unless the role is director level and attracts an annual salary of £130,000 or more). This will replace the current requirement to advertise jobs for two weeks (or one week, where the salary is £40,000 or more.

Europe agrees to increase parental leave
EU Ministers have agreed to adopt a revised Directive on Parental Leave. The main change will be that each working parent will be entitled to four (rather than three) months' leave per child. The right would be wider than it currently is and would apply to all workers, although there is scope for a one year qualifying period to be introduced.
