Banker fired for redundancy while a 'younger' alternative was recruited
In the case of Beck v Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, an Employment Tribunal has held that an employee who was dismissed on redundancy grounds, when a younger replacement was being sought, had been unfairly dismissed, suffered age discrimination, and was also entitled to a protective award for failure to consult.
